Golden hour magic!

When I suggest meeting around 7/7.30pm for a session I am often met with a ‘ahhh man that’s crazy’. I totally get it’s the kids bedtime, it’s getting closer and closer to that time where you finally get to sit down for 5 minutes peace but….just loooooook. Ok, so we don’t always get golden light but when we do it’s like fairies dancing in glitter - freaking magical ♥

If you have ever thought of having a session at this time, but fear risking the chance of your children acting like raving loonies or missing out on that precious down time then just remember it’s only for one evening and the results with not only be amazing but they’ll be perfect.

There’s so many places where this beautiful light makes for great photos; the woods for one - imagine all of this golden light dappling through all of the crisp leaves and shining all it’s warmth on your skin.
The beach - I mean, I don’t even really need to explain how magical this light is shimmering on the water and making the sand even more golden and you can all walk along barefoot with the breeze blowing your hair.
And I’m going to throw in a curveball and say your home too - this light catches all the tiny dust particles and all this things sparkly to create pretty little pockets of beauty in your home. Add in your gorgeous family with lots of hugs and smiles and you have a set of wall worthy images.

Without further ado I’m going to show off this wonderful Mumma with her absolutely adorable little boy ❤

What to wear for your session?

What to Wear to Your Session

One of the hardest things to decide on when having your session is what on earth are we all going to wear?! The best thing to do is start with one outfit and then work all of the others around it - creating a selection of complimenting styles and colours but not too matchy. Try to stay to similar colour palettes and think about your surroundings , for example - pastel colours work amazingly on a nice light beach and richer, earthy colours work well in the woods.

Try to go for:

  • Mixtures of colours on the same pallete

  • Floaty dresses

  • Beautiful tops and skinny jeans

  • Fine knits and chunky boots

  • Long sleeve shirts and chinos/jeans

  • Jewellery

Try to avoid:

  • Neon Colours

  • Too many patterns

  • Character clothing

  • Active wear

  • Athletic shoes

  • Large Logos

Your Style

When you think in terms of your style - also consider your home. These photos may be blown up on some incredible wall art - make sure what you are wearing fits well with your style and decor so you can show your beautiful photos off.

most of all, Make sure everyone is wearing something that they are super comfortable and happy in.

Below are some examples of some gorgeous outfits from www.zara.co.uk. It’s such a great store to find something for everyone with pieces that are comfortable and beautiful.

COLOUR PALETTES

Staying in is the new going out!

So you’ve just had a baby - congratulations! The chances are you are pretty damn tired and broken. Your body is trying to repair itself and your baby is trying to adjust to this new world that they’ve been thrown in to. The nights seem so long and the days are all a blur this time right here, it’s magical. It all feels like such a whirlwind of emotions but it also goes so fast and before you know it, your tiny little baby who you can’t ever imagine being out of your arms will be charging around the house, bossing you around and causing mass destruction.

These baby times are precious and when you feel tired, sore but absolutely besotted with this new life you’ve created - this is the most perfect time to capture the magical (and sometimes crazy) bubble you’re in. Now, I don’t expect you to pack half of your house and the kitchen sink up in a changing bag to bring yourselves all to me but instead I come to you. Your home, your sanctuary - where you and your baby feel relaxed and safe. I won’t force you into lots of unnatural poses but I’ll guide you to make the most of your home and give you beautiful memories of this precious time.

You don’t need to have a show home - your house is perfect however it looks because this is the place you’ve grown your baby on the inside and where it will flourish on the outside. You may redecorate, you may move home and when you look back on these images you’ll get that beautiful flutter in your tummy of the memories when your darling baby was tiny and of the home you adored.

I’m happy to travel anywhere so if you’d like an at home session - just pop me a message and I’ll get right back to you.

Fi and Pete on the beach!

Here’s another engagement session with these absolute beauties; Fi and Pete! They’re both so full of energy and happiness and they just radiate fun. We met at Exmouth to go on a little adventure, running, splashing and chatting all about life and weddings!
The fact that it was a little cloudy just made for the best light. I do love a cloudy day on the beach., you get such a lovely glow on the sea and gorgeous reflections.

I really do adore working with couples, to be able to capture love in such a pure form is truly something special. ❤

Fun in the outdoors!

I just HAVE to share this beautiful family’s photos. We met back in August on such a gorgeous summers day. The best thing about shooting outside is all of the different colours that are the result of each different season. August’s warmth is always reflected by all of the gorgeous yellow and orange tones and the Dubber family dressed to match the colours perfectly!
We went for a little walk around a local area that has lots of lovely little areas to stop and appreciate. There was plenty of time for snuggles, smiles and fun on this session. The happy little faces in these photos make me smile everytime I see them - I hope this amazing family makes you smile too ❤

For all the Mummas and Daddas.....

Being a Mummy myself, I know how hard it can be when you enter the madness that is Parenthood. You lose friends, you gain friends, you lose weight, you gain weight, you lose sleep and it’s likely that’s never gained back. Your whole body changes, your whole life changes and everything you have ever known changes.
Children are these little magical, wonderful beings that just turn your world upside down and all the way around in the most amazing way but often, in being a parent you can really lose yourself.

The amount of parents I speak to who now suffer with anxiety, low moods or just generally feel absolutely broken from a huge lack of sleep is just incredible. It’s so good that this is talked about more because when you feel like that, support is the thing you really want, well actually need the most. Knowing that they are so many people out there feeling the same way makes that overwhelming feeling lift a little.

What upsets me the most in this profession is the amount of parents who say ‘I won’t be in the photos this time, wait until I’ve lost weight’, ‘I won’t be in these ones, wait until I look better’, ‘I won’t be in these photos, I look too tired’ because all I see when I look at them is people so full of love for their children and children bursting with love for their parents.

You may think you’re carrying more weight than before, you may think you look tired, you may think that maybe there’ll be another chance. Honestly, it doesn’t matter. Bodies change. You’re probably surviving on less sleep now than you ever dreamed imaginable. You look amazing now, not just on another day but now. No matter how you feel about yourself, you just need to find happiness in the fact that you have carried/raised tiny humans. Tiny humans that are growing into bigger humans that will always admire and look up to you. When the tiny humans growing into bigger humans grow into the biggest humans - they are going to want to see you. See the wonderful body you had after carrying them and raising them, see the joy in your face for just living in the moment and joining in on the fun, see the wonderful parent that you are.

I know you might not feel yourself right now, I know that things can feel really tough and sometimes even getting dressed in the morning can feel like the hardest task but it all just gets better. You’re doing the best job in the world, raising and shaping people. Give yourself a break and love yourself more. It’s ok not to feel ok but that doesn’t make you any less of the amazing person that you are.❤

Sneaky Peek - Sarah and Phil's beautiful Devon Wedding.

Ahhhh what an amazing day for these two! Here’s a sneaky peek of the most hilarious, fun and beautiful wedding. You’d be hard pushed to find a couple that are so in love, happy, relaxed and so awesomely fun! Sarah and Phil tied the knot in the absolutely stunning St Pauls Church in Tiverton then went on the The Devon Hotel for their reception which were both perfect locations. Their day consisted of so much joy and laughter, my cheeks still hurt from all of the giggling! Congratulations Mr and Mrs Game. Here’s a little glimpse; enjoy!

Why do we need a family session?

Why do we need a family session?

This is something I am seriously passionate about. I believe so much in every session but family sessions in particular are something that are just magical.
It’s just you and your children exploring nature, or playing in your home - connecting with each other. SO many mums and dads take endless photos on their phones of their families but can you honestly say that you’re both in most of the family photos? I bet not.

Each family session is tailored to suit your needs, we can either talk over ideas on the phone or we can do it all over email but I want to know what your family loves, the place that makes your heart skip a beat, where you really love being. There’s not a time limit to family sessions, I want your family to feel comfortable enough with me to be themselves and sometimes, this takes time.

Don’t ever be afraid to bring anything with you which means a lot to you, that your kids love or you know will make awesome photos. If you have children who are obsessed with riding their bikes then bring them (the bikes, I’m hoping you’ll remember your kids hehe) . If you pretty much live your life in the back of a campervan over the summer weekends then lets do some of your session in there, if you have a vintage blanket that’s been in your family for years - drag it along! There’s nothing that we can’t incorperate to a session. Especially things that really show your personalities and who you are as family. When you look back at your photos in years to come, it’s so special to remember those toys your child was obsessed with or that dress that you never wanted to take off.

So why do you need a family session? Because your beautiful connection is something that needs to be documented, because your children won’t ever be as little as they are now, because you are all so loved and so very beautiful, because your children won’t cherish anything you give them right now as much as they will cherish these photos when they’re older, because these moments will be loved, kept and passed on for years and years, because you don’t want to look back and realise that you’re the only one missing in all of your family albums.

If you haven’t yet taken the leap of a photo session then take it now, and take it with both hands.

Caroline and Iain's beautiful Muddifords Wedding

Ahhh Caroline and Iain. Thinking about these two just makes me smile, they’re both such warm and loving individuals. It was just like working a friends wedding, they made us so involved. Their day was superbly organised (expecting nothing less with Caroline being a fantastic teacher) with sooo many fun touches to keep everyone busy and happy.
Caroline and Iain wed in a beautiful room at the venue and their service was just perfect. Once they had officially tied the knot there were lots of games to be played and fun to be had! They had an ice cream cart, lawn games, a pizza van and a super disco! There were constant smiles on all of the guests face, it was just so much fun! I really think that the photos can tell their story much better than I can so here they are!

Tori and David's Magical Muddifords Wedding

OK…so I’ve just realised that the last I blogged was in June…LAST YEAR. I am officially the worst. I’m not promising that I’ll get any better at blogging because in all honesty, I get so caught up in the excitement of every session and wedding and all of the lovely moments that I just, you know, forget. But…. I will try.

So, kicking off 2019 in style I’m starting with these absolute beauties; Tori and David. Their wedding day was held at the gorgeous Muddifords Court on an absolute scorcher of a Summer’s day. I had previously met with these two on their engagement session so I knew that their wedding was going to be spectacular but I underestimated the amount of pure love that would have been poured into every single detail. A wonderful treat for your eyes, these guys thought of lit-er-ally eveeeerything. Aside from the absolutely beautiful decorations and amazing bride and groom, the emotion, the love and happiness that just radiated the whole day was what made this wedding a fantastic one.
