Staying in is the new going out!

Staying in is the new going out!

So you’ve just had a baby - congratulations! The chances are you are pretty damn tired and broken. Your body is trying to repair itself and your baby is trying to adjust to this new world that they’ve been thrown in to. The nights seem so long and the days are all a blur this time right here, it’s magical. It all feels like such a whirlwind of emotions but it also goes so fast and before you know it, your tiny little baby who you can’t ever imagine being out of your arms will be charging around the house, bossing you around and causing mass destruction.

These baby times are precious and when you feel tired, sore but absolutely besotted with this new life you’ve created - this is the most perfect time to capture the magical (and sometimes crazy) bubble you’re in. Now, I don’t expect you to pack half of your house and the kitchen sink up in a changing bag to bring yourselves all to me but instead I come to you. Your home, your sanctuary - where you and your baby feel relaxed and safe. I won’t force you into lots of unnatural poses but I’ll guide you to make the most of your home and give you beautiful memories of this precious time.

You don’t need to have a show home - your house is perfect however it looks because this is the place you’ve grown your baby on the inside and where it will flourish on the outside. You may redecorate, you may move home and when you look back on these images you’ll get that beautiful flutter in your tummy of the memories when your darling baby was tiny and of the home you adored.

I’m happy to travel anywhere so if you’d like an at home session - just pop me a message and I’ll get right back to you.

Fi and Pete on the beach!

Here’s another engagement session with these absolute beauties; Fi and Pete! They’re both so full of energy and happiness and they just radiate fun. We met at Exmouth to go on a little adventure, running, splashing and chatting all about life and weddings!
The fact that it was a little cloudy just made for the best light. I do love a cloudy day on the beach., you get such a lovely glow on the sea and gorgeous reflections.

I really do adore working with couples, to be able to capture love in such a pure form is truly something special. ❤

For all the Mummas and Daddas.....

Being a Mummy myself, I know how hard it can be when you enter the madness that is Parenthood. You lose friends, you gain friends, you lose weight, you gain weight, you lose sleep and it’s likely that’s never gained back. Your whole body changes, your whole life changes and everything you have ever known changes.
Children are these little magical, wonderful beings that just turn your world upside down and all the way around in the most amazing way but often, in being a parent you can really lose yourself.

The amount of parents I speak to who now suffer with anxiety, low moods or just generally feel absolutely broken from a huge lack of sleep is just incredible. It’s so good that this is talked about more because when you feel like that, support is the thing you really want, well actually need the most. Knowing that they are so many people out there feeling the same way makes that overwhelming feeling lift a little.

What upsets me the most in this profession is the amount of parents who say ‘I won’t be in the photos this time, wait until I’ve lost weight’, ‘I won’t be in these ones, wait until I look better’, ‘I won’t be in these photos, I look too tired’ because all I see when I look at them is people so full of love for their children and children bursting with love for their parents.

You may think you’re carrying more weight than before, you may think you look tired, you may think that maybe there’ll be another chance. Honestly, it doesn’t matter. Bodies change. You’re probably surviving on less sleep now than you ever dreamed imaginable. You look amazing now, not just on another day but now. No matter how you feel about yourself, you just need to find happiness in the fact that you have carried/raised tiny humans. Tiny humans that are growing into bigger humans that will always admire and look up to you. When the tiny humans growing into bigger humans grow into the biggest humans - they are going to want to see you. See the wonderful body you had after carrying them and raising them, see the joy in your face for just living in the moment and joining in on the fun, see the wonderful parent that you are.

I know you might not feel yourself right now, I know that things can feel really tough and sometimes even getting dressed in the morning can feel like the hardest task but it all just gets better. You’re doing the best job in the world, raising and shaping people. Give yourself a break and love yourself more. It’s ok not to feel ok but that doesn’t make you any less of the amazing person that you are.❤

Why do we need a family session?

Why do we need a family session?

This is something I am seriously passionate about. I believe so much in every session but family sessions in particular are something that are just magical.
It’s just you and your children exploring nature, or playing in your home - connecting with each other. SO many mums and dads take endless photos on their phones of their families but can you honestly say that you’re both in most of the family photos? I bet not.

Each family session is tailored to suit your needs, we can either talk over ideas on the phone or we can do it all over email but I want to know what your family loves, the place that makes your heart skip a beat, where you really love being. There’s not a time limit to family sessions, I want your family to feel comfortable enough with me to be themselves and sometimes, this takes time.

Don’t ever be afraid to bring anything with you which means a lot to you, that your kids love or you know will make awesome photos. If you have children who are obsessed with riding their bikes then bring them (the bikes, I’m hoping you’ll remember your kids hehe) . If you pretty much live your life in the back of a campervan over the summer weekends then lets do some of your session in there, if you have a vintage blanket that’s been in your family for years - drag it along! There’s nothing that we can’t incorperate to a session. Especially things that really show your personalities and who you are as family. When you look back at your photos in years to come, it’s so special to remember those toys your child was obsessed with or that dress that you never wanted to take off.

So why do you need a family session? Because your beautiful connection is something that needs to be documented, because your children won’t ever be as little as they are now, because you are all so loved and so very beautiful, because your children won’t cherish anything you give them right now as much as they will cherish these photos when they’re older, because these moments will be loved, kept and passed on for years and years, because you don’t want to look back and realise that you’re the only one missing in all of your family albums.

If you haven’t yet taken the leap of a photo session then take it now, and take it with both hands.

Claire and Tyson at Woolacombe!

Uhoh, I'm behind on my blog again so I'm kicking it off with this one! What can I say about these two?! I don't know where to start, they're both such brilliant people with such a passion for life and happiness. They snuck off from their little family holiday in Woolacombe to meet me for their engagement session and we are so glad we decided to do it there!

For those of you who don't know Woolacombe (North Devon)  you should. It's a majorly popular beach and it's easy to see why. The beautiful smooth sand, clear sea, rock pools and jellyfish make you feel like you're in another part of the world. The evening we met the sky was the most amazing colour, it was so moody yet calm and for once the beach was really quiet. We went for a stroll in the sand just chatting about their boys, life and all of their plans for their laid back wedding at West Town Farm.

Here are the photos from our fab time together:

Mel and Matt's Couple Session

It was just so lovely meeting up with Matt and Mel at their very own little piece of paradise. Not only are they lucky enough to own this little area where they have camping trips, barbeques and chilled out sunny days but it's also the special place where Matt proposed (and Mel said yes!)
Two wonderful, in love and laid back people - their wedding will most definitely be something amazing.

Devon Engagement Session

This is the engagement session of the wonderful Daisy and Tim. We met at Knightshayes where we had a long chat about their amazing wedding which will be taking place at Tracey Estate, Honiton. They have so many awesome, beautiful plans - I am beyond excited to be photographing their day! After our catch up, we walked around the grounds to get some photos of the two of them. It had been lovely and sunny early on but by the time we had got out to the grounds the wind picked up and the sky turned grey - making for some moody atmospheric photos with the odd peaking of sunshine from behind the clouds!

It was lovely catching up with you both for your engagement photos Daisy and Tim - I truly can't wait to photograph your wedding.
